"She
is one of the most electrifying speakers in North America," says Meeting
and Conventions magazine.
Her clients agree. "Fripp is the most reliable, versatile, easy to work
with, hassle-free, customer-friendly speaker we've ever booked," says
Dan Maddux, Executive Director of the American Payroll Assn. Patricia
Fripp, CSP, CPAE was a successful entrepreneur in a service industry
for twenty-four years. Today she is an award-winning international speaker
who has addressed audiences on four continents.

she received their CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation
in 1981 and their CPAE Hall of Fame Award in 1983 for professionalism
and excellence in speaking. In 1996 she received the Cavett Award, the
annual "Oscar" of the National Speakers Association.
Fripp was the founder and president of the largest National Speakers
Association chapter, NSA/Northern California. A leadership award, the
"Frippy," has been named after her, and she is a member of the prestigious
Speakers Roundtable, consisting of twenty-two of the most successful,
in-demand speakers in the country. |

How
did you get started in your current line of work? |
| PF: |
In
1975, I started traveling nationwide for a hair-care product company,
doing seminars for hair stylists. The talking part of what I was doing
was so successful, the company expanded the seminars to a second day.
The Golden Gate Breakfast Club asked me to speak and it went so well
that they recommended me to a second group, and a third group, etc.
I decided I wanted to be a full-time speaker in 1977 when I attended
the National Speakers Association convention. |
| GS: |
What
were the 3 biggest obstacles you had to overcome? |
| PF: |
Simply
finding time to do it all. I didn't really have any major obstacles,
but I did have to become good at saying no. |
| GS: |
The
famous book As a Man Thinketh by James Allen tells us when we "Conquer
doubt and fear.we conquer failure." Let me ask you. What is the biggest
thing you do to help you conquer doubt and fear? |
| PF: |
I
don't have time to think about doubt & fear. I'm too busy. It doesn't
relate to me. |
| GS: |
What
2 books have influenced you the most? Why? |
| PF: |
The
Story, by Robert McKee and Make It So You Don't Have To Fake It - which
is my new book. |
| GS: |
What
is your greatest Bill Gove story you could share with our readers? |
| PF: |
The
time he complimented me by saying, "You could dance to her rhythm when
she speaks." The Marco Island, big red bus story is my favorite Bill
Gove Story. |
| GS: |
You
have already made your first million. What advice can you give the rest
of us who may still be looking to make our first million? |
| PF: |
Save
your money. Don't spend it unwisely. Don't spend to impress people.
Ask yourself this question: "Do you count your riches in money or memories?" |
| GS: |
How
importantly would you rank mental toughness and the ability to communicate
as it relates to your success and why? |
| PF: |
Mental
toughness is important. It also takes an ongoing, consistent, shameless
ability to promote yourself. You have to constantly improve or the promotion
won't work. It never ceases to amaze me that there are intelligent,
well educated, ambitious people who overlook developing the #1 skill
guaranteed to position them ahead of the crowd - the ability to speak
eloquently in public. |
| GS: |
If
you had to start over again.what would you NOT do again? |
| PF: |
If
I were starting over again, I would seek out good speech coaches earlier. |
| GS: |
What
is the reason most people don't achieve their major goals and dreams? |
| PF: |
The
people who I hang out with do. Most people don't put themselves into
circumstances to control their own destiny. Most people settle for more
compromise than they have to. |
| GS: |
Who
were your role models/mentors, and what was it that you saw in them? |
| PF: |
Mike
Frank. He discovered me and helped me learn the ropes. I learned from
everyone in the business. |
